Laura was born in New York, the daughter of two pharmacists who owned a small drugstore in White Plains. She attended Wellesley College in Massachusetts and went on to study law at American University in Washington, D.C.
After graduation, she returned to New York and began a 10-year career in public interest law, putting her fluent Spanish to work while representing working-class families. It was during this time that she met Ciro, while both were attending a conference for The National Italian American Foundation in Washington.
Laura and Ciro were married in Italy in 2000, and a year later moved to Delaware to start their family. Laura took the bar exam in Delaware when her son Jake was two years old, and is now licensed to practice law in New York, Connecticut, Pennsylvania and Delaware. She joined the Poppiti family law firm and began practicing law again with a focus on real estate, small businesses and estates – working with families and learning a great deal about end-of-life decisions, about how addiction affects everyone in the family (as well as estate planning), and about dying with dignity.
When not in the law office, Laura is a self-described “soccer mom” who volunteers with the Girl Scouts and at the school where her two children, Jake and Louise, attend. She organizes an annual fundraiser for the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition and performs a variety of legal-related volunteer work throughout the year. A dedicated runner, she hopes to climb Mount Kilimanjaro one day soon, when she can find the time.
